Vintage pearl president ?

Hey guys..I had a question for all you vintage Pearl President experts..

I recently picked up a vintage Pearl drumkit in what vintage Pearl catalogs describe as Gold "Grain Pearl".. However, there are some anomalies that tells me otherwise..Like there is no badge that says "president", only an original vintage Pearl badge that is nailed to the shell with the current Pearl logo. It is a 5 piece, so there is a 60's Rogers style double tom mount.. The shells are what confuse me even more..

Both tom shells have a reddish finish in the interior, and the floor and kick had a regular maple looking finish..Also, at the interior seam of the bass drum there looks like what appears to be chipping wood filler, but i'm not sure that "wood filler" was around back then ? But the kit does have the tell tale hardware of the President series of the early 70's.

I also believe that made them until 1975 ?

I know that pics would better help determine what i have on my hands, but for now, here is a link from the Pearl website forum showing my drums in blue oyster..Same hardware and configuration, right down to the snare drum, only mine is Gold Grain Pearl.. The thoughts on this subject should be interesting !

I'd say (I don't KNOW) Pearl used up it's stock of Battleship and President lugs on it's regular luan drums while the next style took over for the Fiberglass and Wood/Fiberglass lines.

Man those toms might be made of phenolic, and if so sound killer! Heavy though. I had a some and they sounded great. Mine did say President on the badge.

In a land of chimpanzees I was a monkey.
