Vintage marching snares... ANY value??? Last viewed: 13 hours ago

Hi all,

I have a line on a bunch of 60's & 70's marching snares - mainly Ludwig & slingerland. I know I could strip them and part them out, but is there any market for them as is? Would it be worth it to part them out? I don't want to have a living room full of worthless marching snares.

Thanks!

there is a market. some people buy them for what they are. some use them as an alternative snare drum. some use them as a makeshift floor tom. ive seen a few parted out as well, like you mentioned.

I see them on eBay often. I'd love one but can't bring myself to pay eBay prices for a "once in awhile" snare.

I have a friend who uses one. With a maple hoop on top. It has the best stick clicks. I want one for that reason alone.

and some people cut them down to make a 14 or 15 inch by 5 1/2 or 6 1/2 snare. Same sound as an original, but players drum.

I would absolutely adore a living room full of worthless marching snares. I'd have all the kids in the neighborhood marching around playing cadences!

I just found a Slingy cloud badge at the city dump. First I thought I would part it out. Then as I was cleaning it up, I figured I'd just shine it up and put it on ebay. Once it started to look better I found myself saying, "I could just put a few extra bucks into it and have another drum.

I love and collect the single tension drums. Such a variety in how they were painted and used (and abused). Every brand had 'em so there were tons in schools and marching bands.

I started buying on ebay when I could pick 'em up for $50 or less, now they seem to go for much more.
