Vintage marching drum Last viewed: 1 day ago

Loading...

I recently purchased this vintage marching bass drum and was wondering if anyone can tell me who made it. I think it may be Ludwig or Leedy by the way the tension rods are. Also I am looking for some reasonably priced ($30-$50.00 range) look alike calfskin heads with no logo. I am not going to completely restore the drum just re-skin it and clean the brass tension rods, I kind of like its patina.

Thanks for looking.

That looks very interesting and very old (late 19th C. - early 20th C. perhaps?), but I'm just guessing. It looks like it's about 30x6 with one strap ring, and that brass attachment on the hoop looks like a lyre mount.

Post some pics when you get it cleaned up and get the heads on. I'm with you on leaving the shell as is, but I'd refinish the hoops. Nice old piece.

Thanks, I guess I could re-finish the hoops and I will post pics when done. The size is a bit odd it is 27" X 6" I am having trouble finding a battered head with no logo on it. If I could find a head with a vintage Ludwig or Leedy logo that would work.

Good luck finding a vintage 27" head with a Leedy logo! You will probably have to get one custom made. One of our members here, CT Pro Percussion could probably make you a calfskin 27" with the logo.

Sorry I was wrong after taking the hoops off I discovered what was left of the old head was warped. I should have measured the diameter of the hoop. It is 28 inches what was I thinking. Sorry I'm not firing on all cylinders I am recovering from rhinoplasty surgery and the pain pills are effecting my measurement skills.
