Vintage Ludwig wraps

Loading...

Does anyone know where Ludwig got their wraps in the 1960s? It seems like a disproportionate number of vintage Ludwig wraps are unavailable today. Their WMP and Sky Blue Pearl are not quite the same as the pearls available from Delmar. You can't find Oyster Blue Pearl wrap for love nor money. And we won't even talk about the Standard stratas.

Were they not using Delmar wraps back in the day?

Kits:
1950s Gretsch Name Band in Midnight Blue Pearl (13/16/22/14sn)
1965/66 Ludwig Club Dates rewrapped in Black Diamond Pearl (12/15/20)

Most all of the pearl wraps were of imported origin at the time (Italy from what I understand). They were made from material that they can no longer produce due to EPA-type regulations, hence the lack of current wraps that accurately recreate the vintage wraps. Today's wraps are made from pvc.....yesterdays were of an acetate base and Delmar is the main source these days.
