I noticed a couple of new catalogs for Apollo drums and others added over at VintageDrumGuide's mij section. Some of these catalogs, which I assume to be from the mid 60's or so based on the clothing styles of people pictured in them, have the prices listed for the drum sets.
Just out of curiosity I used the US Inflation calculator (which tells you what the value of a dollar was at a given year in the past) to see what the comparative price of these drumsets would be in terms of today's dollars. WOW! They were expensive. Remember these are the supposedly cheap Japanese stencil sets. most are over $300 which translates to over $2100 assuming the year 1966 as the original purchase year. I wonder what a set of Luddies would have cost around that time.
When you consider that you can buy a set of Pearl Exports today for about $600, that's really saying something about the pricing of a drum set over time.
