Hello, and thanks in advance for your input. I picked up this vintage drum today, and was wondering if anyone had ever seen one like it. It belonged to Tex Ritter and has 2 "return to" addresses on it. One is his Van Nuys ranch address from the 40's, and the other is his Toluca Lake address from the 50's and later. It is hinged and opens up. It has a skin tacked on the bottom - you can see the tacks in the side. It has a pretty good sound to it. I don't know a lot about drums, so I would appreciate your help on this one. It measures 16" across the top, and is approx. 11" tall. An original price is written inside the top head of $8.50 (don't know if this was the drum or head price). Thanks again. David

Wow! Interesting! I've never seen another one like it. It might be homemade. I don't recognize the lug style.

Is that one of those "suitcase" drums? I've read about these things where they made a drumkit that was easy to handle in the city. It had a handle and opened up to put your other equipment in. I couldn't name one manufacturer of them, but I have read about them. Seemed like an odd bird to me. I couldn't imagine carrying my stuff inside my bass - banging around and damaging the inside of the drum. Ouch.

The response about the suitcase drum by mcjnic makes sense. There is the handle for carrying. And I was thinking the same - about beating the drum up from the inside. The inside on this one is pretty clean with no damage from things banging around. I did include another photo with the inside showing better. It has a leather strap to limit how far it opens.Thanks again for your responses.

If i recall right,That drum was made by "BERRY" drums sometime in the 1920-to mid 30s...They also had a fold-up bass drum agian if i recall the bass drum was a 8x20 or 10x20 and would fold up in four's making the drum a 7" across by 8 or 10" deep....Mikey
