I have a set of Leedy/Slingerland vintage timbales and was wondering what size drum key is needed or a compatible drum key... I ordered a standard size drum key and it is too big for the lug not.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Look into clock keys...They range in size...Take a measurement of the head of the tension rod with a set of calipers and compare it to the chart in the link...You'll find them on Ebay...

If you are not looking for original, this is the cheaper way to go...

Solved and thanks for the clock key idea. You got me looking more closely and the drum keys I bought were different (I thought they were the same). The key I was using was a HEX and not square. I checked the other key and it was square and fits the lugs perfectly.
The HEX key was slipping and I thought it was just too big.

PS - you can tell I am not a drummer guitar2
