I think that's an early 70s kit. I haven't seen a black one before but I've had a couple of these. Those tail light lugs were used on the higher end kit but this is a 6 lug bass drum so:confused: Anyway, it has the same tom mount as the one below but with different lugs, so maybe a later version?

As to the price, well it's probably fine in those sizes. However, this kit is for sale here and even with the 8 lug snare hasn't been snapped up at $420cnd http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=856567502 I already have the same kit otherwise I'd probably grab it.

The pics are of a similar to the one you are looking at that I sold a couple of years back. Nice kit but not the same quality of finish as the earlier thunder kit. Close though

I'm looking for a vintage MIJ kit, but since this is most probably a vintage Yamaha, the sound and build quality is more superior..My real goal would be to find a vintage 60's Pearl kit, or Pearl President..My cousin has one in his studio and he refused to sell it to me.. It's the green-ish mixed with gold-ish- tiger eye stripe..22-16-13..Man am i jealous cause he's not even a drummer ! But he does play and record with the kit..It's in barely decent shape, and i told him that i'd love to restore it.. He refused that offer as well.. What a tool ! Lol ! Maybe i'll just wait for a better deal to come along..
