I have recently become the owner of a very old hi hat stand that I'm guessing is from the 30's. There is no major manufacturer's logo but there IS a name cast on the underside of the foot plate that says "NICK MANOLOFF - CHICAGO ILL." Can anyone give me some background to this piece....I have searched the internet and found absolutely nothing that gives me any time frame or vintage value of the hi hat. Many thanks for any assistance. Steve (repercussiondrumshop@yahoo.ca)
Vintage 30's HiHat Stand by Nick Manoloff
I would really like to see a picture of the hi hat. From that we might be able to help with information, based on design.
The name under the foot plate strikes me as interesting.

I've posted some pics of the hi-hat. Note that the clutch is very unique in that it tightens onto the post by means of the top screw bearing down on the clutch shaft that is split, therefore forcing it to tighten onto the post. Something I have never seen before. Any info would be appreciated. Many thanks....Steve
I have this same or similar hi hat. I dont think it says Nick Manoloff on the bottom, but on the pedal it says FDS Chicago, ILL (you cant see that in my crappy pics) I'm wondering the same things that Steve is about this item.
You can also see that I have the old bowl hi hat cymbals that came with it.
I believe these to be from 1947. There is a little paper sticker on the inside of the hi hats that says 2-17-47, 2 sld, $2.75 (maybe I am misinterpreting it)
One of the cymbals has been stamped with a tiny WINSHIP & SONS MUSIC HOUSE SPOKANE Any help appreciated. Daniel
Hi Id like to bump this thread. Does anyone know any more info about this HH stand? I have one also and it too says "NICK MANAOLOFF" under the pedal...it is way cool becaue the footboard actually hinges closed in one move for transport. thanks Allan
I have one too,but mine says FDS..(Franks Drum Shop) Chicago.
It came with a 14" late 40's Trans Stamp A.Zil............

This H H looks like a Walberg & Auge. Nick Manoloff wrote instruction books for guitar & slide guitar. I'm surprised to see him associated w/ anything percussion. I've not seen any drum instruction books by him yet.
