Various Drums Last viewed: 5 hours ago

I've got a few drums for sale.

Please tell me if this is reasonable because I'm not getting a response. I don't mind offering a good deal but at the same time I don't want to give the stuff away. I'm trying to build up my 'vintage buying fund' while downsizing a bit.

I've been told I'm a little high regarding the MIJ drums here. But you have to see them to appreciate them I think. They are in fantastic shape and sound very good. I think they're playable and at the same time collectible and worth more than $60-$80...........is that just me?

What do you think?

I think a complete all matching restored MIJ kit is worth more than its parts. At the same time, snares (what we see here) are worth about %50 of your asking price, maybe more to the right buyer. I've seen them go for as low as 30 or as high as about 70 or 80. Much of that comes down to the number of lugs and the condition - and of course if the buyer is buying a match (to what they have) or not.

While that is not good news for MIJ sellers, you must admit that we all (most of us - some don't even get involved with them) really like that when we are the buyers.

This is why it is rare that I sell an MIJ. Most of mine I acquire to keep.

A street value of over 500 for a set of roto-toms? I very much disagree. Can you show us selling prices like that (not listed - but selling)? I just noticed that you said that the stand is NEW and you are referencing an MSRP. That would cut in half as soon as you walk out the door of the retailer. I would say $150 is more appropriate for those.

That's the way I see it. Due to the labor of restoration, we tend to become emotionally invested in them much deeper than their street value. I know I will NEVER sell my very first drumset - a Pearl made (Charcoal Pearl) Dixie kit.

Someday I will get all these projects done and finally post some pics on here!

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

i agree with john's' figures. i usually don't give to many negative responses to sellers as far as their value. i'm only chiming in since you asked for our unput and i hope you understand that ok. on the floor tom, i think 300 would be closer to the mark. its a great drum. but i think 300 is about all the money on it and it would have to be real nice in my opinion. just basing that on previous purchases and current market values, which appear to be really low right now...good luck sir!

Thanks guys

Drummerjohn

I think you mis-read some of my ad. I mentioned the 'steet value' of the roto toms at $320 I believe.....I will have to go back and look.

I think I will keep the MIJ snare drums if they're not going to fetch more than $30. They are gorgeous little drums, kid of like when you get hold of one of those vintage toys and it just brightens your day. I can't even phathom selling one of these for $30.....that's less than a dozen cups of coffee at Starbucks.

I'll wait until someone is looking for one to complete a nice kit. That someone may be me some day.

As far as the Roto Toms go - if you buy brand new they're at least a few $100 and more with the Remo stand. When I compare my recently (three years ago or so) bought 6" Roto Tom to the ones I bought in the 70's.....my old (Vintage) toms are much sturdier made.

I'd sell my Roto Toms for $225 but that's the lowest.

The floor tom..............it's a beautiful drum and it may be the perfect drum for someone looking to complete a kit - $300 sounds reasonable to me.

Thanks for bringing me back to reality though guys. I'm a little out of touch up here in Canada.........things (drums etc.) just cost more here I think.

i agree about just keeping the mij snare drums. ive got some drums like that myself. that are just worth more to me to hang on to them and enjoy them. i usually figure they are worth at least 50,but i see many on ebay for less. ive paid 75 and 150 for a couple of special to me mij snare drums.

Gary, I hope you don't take this the wrong way.But this is my take on the M.I.J. snares. The M.I.J. snares from the 60's I would say 70% of these drums were made in the very common colors Sparkle's red, blue, silver, gold these were made in a 6,8,10 lug's.The 6 lugs drums maybe 45.00 tops, the 8 lug drums maybe 55.00, the 10 lug snares 75.00+..On the pearl finish's they made about 25% of these add 10.00 maybe 15.00 to each drum..The real money is in the rare finish's the sparkle's and pearl's i would say only 5 % of all the drums made are these a 6 lug snare 75.00 a 8 lug snare 85.00+ the 10 lug snare 100.00+..Your price on the Ludwig floor tom is pretty right 300.00 for the drum it looks to be in very good condition..The roto-toms the 70's made one's 6,8,10 seem to sell for 50.00 each, the 12"s seem to sell for alittle more i dont know about the pricing on the stand's but i would guess 50.00 for a good used one.....Mikey

Thanks Mikey.

You're in touch with all this - as many here are - so I do take this advice seriously. I have sentimental value attached to the MIJ drums and I know you can't put a price on that. I got my very first drum from my grandmother - Christmas 1965 - it was a MIJ drum with a pearl finish. That is my very best memory of Christmas. Everytime I see or play one of those 60's MIJ snare drums it brings back those memories.

Good advise on the pricing Mikey.
