I think a complete all matching restored MIJ kit is worth more than its parts. At the same time, snares (what we see here) are worth about %50 of your asking price, maybe more to the right buyer. I've seen them go for as low as 30 or as high as about 70 or 80. Much of that comes down to the number of lugs and the condition - and of course if the buyer is buying a match (to what they have) or not.
While that is not good news for MIJ sellers, you must admit that we all (most of us - some don't even get involved with them) really like that when we are the buyers.
This is why it is rare that I sell an MIJ. Most of mine I acquire to keep.
A street value of over 500 for a set of roto-toms? I very much disagree. Can you show us selling prices like that (not listed - but selling)? I just noticed that you said that the stand is NEW and you are referencing an MSRP. That would cut in half as soon as you walk out the door of the retailer. I would say $150 is more appropriate for those.
That's the way I see it. Due to the labor of restoration, we tend to become emotionally invested in them much deeper than their street value. I know I will NEVER sell my very first drumset - a Pearl made (Charcoal Pearl) Dixie kit.
Someday I will get all these projects done and finally post some pics on here!
