I agree with all the above comments. The Pearl hex-rod mount set up is excellent.Never been a big fan of the Set-O-Matic except for a single tom,as the rod is long and you can get good distance from the BD centerline.Your set's oversize dimensions will work in your favor price-wise.Nice big thumpers...
Value of Slingerland drum set Last viewed: 3 hours ago
For some reason,in this case,it seems as though the metal helps the sound...
I had a set of these once, and they sounded great!
Wow!
Absolutely beautiful!
I'm all for the pearl hardware, I was thinking of the big 7/8" Tom holders from the late 70's early 80's.
That set is in just awesome condition.
I vote no sale.
It's just two sets. I have like eight.
At least wait for the economy to bounce back, you'll kick your self when they go for big $$ in a few years.
You should at least post it on the "for sale" section on here.
I'd say you would at least know its going to a good home.

Quite right Clubdate! Don't sell. You will regret it. Such a great looking kit. I bet it sounds killer as well.

What a great kit!!
Put the same Pearl dual tom mounts on my Slingys in the mid 70's.
Don't regret it a bit.
The Slingys mounts seriously lacked in stability and adjustment. The Pearl unit blends well.
If it's a museum piece then the Pearl mounts hurt. Players kit they are a big plus.
Side note the chrome is a bit soft on the Pearl mount. Just use micro fiber when polishing. Picked up some tiny scratches with cotton. Was surprised.

Hello All,
I really appreciate your very kind comments regarding my Slingerland drum set. It is in almost new condition because it has never been gigged and has spent most of the last thirty years in closets. I would keep it if I had room to set it up in my drum room. In order to take the photos I had to temporarily move furniture in our living room. I just feel I will probably never use it because my wife and I are near retirement and will be downsizing in the next few years and I will have even less room for it. I would like to give it a home with someone who would appreciate it and take great care of it.
As far as the Pearl hardware, I had worked in a music store running the drum department during college and therefore had lots of opportunity to compare brands and details of things like hardware. The comments regarding the Pearl double tom mount being superior to the Set-O-Matic and Super Set-O-Matic was my conclusion as well after hearing customers complain about the Slingerland design and praise the Pearl mount.
I would appreciate any estimates all of you might have regarding the value of the set before I decide whether to sell it or put it back in the closet. I noticed Teverson-Sr commented on a 70s set with 13/18/24 sizes plus a snare as being worth an estimated $1,500-$2,000. I would hope that my set would be worth more given that it is a six-piece set with heavy duty Pearl hardware. Thanks for your comments.

The only true way to get a value on the set is to put it on sale. A set like that has no real comps. If you think you want 2K for it, put it on craigslist and ebay and see if it sells. You can always take less if you get a good offer.
Here is a sold similar set:
My guess is a good deal for buyer and seller would be about $1200 for the set.
Pluses: Clean as heck, complete, no mods, pearl mounts were added before any Slingerland mounts were put on, so there are no extra holes.
Negatives...Pearl mounts on a Slingerland set. I'm a Slingerland nut and would prefer those, but resale is another thing and those mounts will deter a lot of potential buyers. The chrome finish is very common...there are tons of them out there. Most aren't as clean as yours, but there are a ton of them around in those over size sizes.
I'm thinking that a studio or studio musician that wants a nice 3 ply set would love them.
The only real way to get the current "value" is to see what someone will pay...so put them up for sale and see what happens.
Only $200 per drum on a 9 piece set...they just don't fetch the $$, do they?
Unfortunately, Slingerland drums do not carry the value of the other three primary American manufacturers in that period. Are the drums sub-par? Absolutely not. Was the marketing sub par? Probably.
That is a great looking set. Put a price tag on them and wait. If you are not in a hurry, someone will see them for what they are and want them. Heck, I want them. There is just a difference between wanting and needing in my case.

Rich and tnsquint,
Thanks very much for your very thoughtful analysis of the drum set and for your estimates of its value. The reason I haven't put it up for sale is I don't have any idea of its value. That is the reason I am requesting estimates of its value. If it is really only worth $700-$1,200 taking the range of your estimates, I won't put it up for sale. It will just go back in the closet. In any event I don't plan to list it on eBay or Craigslist. I will list it on this website because I want someone who would appreciate it and take great care of it to own instead of some guy who has the money but no sense of its value as a vintage musical instrument.
I would appreciate any other estimates that any of you reading this might have of the drum set's value. Thanks.
