Using Luddy Hollywood as Downbeat

Loading...

I am using my 60's Ludwig Hollywood kit as a single tom "down beat" kit on some gigs. Currently I use a snare stand or mount the 13 tom backwards (e.g. keystone badge towards the throne. I do mess with the damper knob, so backwards not ideal. Any suggestions re: using a suspension mount or other scheme to turn the 13 tom 180 degrees on the BD post mount? no shell mods are under consideration.

Thanks......

And what's wrong with the snare stand?

Thanks Aaron. I was looking for a functional recommendation. I will likely go this direction.

Gilnar, Snare stand works, but I like the tom mounted on the BD & being prepard for limited space which can be an issue. The contact on the bottom hoop can choke the tom a bit. Sometimes a good choke, sometimes not.

Thanks. any others? -Lew

If you're using a 22, 13, 16 it would be a super classic set not a downbeat; not that I've ever really heard drummers referring to catalog configurations by name.

I think the logical thing to do would be to flip the tom mount on the drum..

Gotcha...Super Classic. It is a 22/13/16.

Cant flip it. Dont want to drill. Thanks.

Your alternative is either a RIMS mount (I prefer the Gauger alloy) or

learn to live with the badge and muffler knob being 180 degrees out

of place. FYI surgical tubing on the snare stand arms goes a long way

toward keeping the tom from choking.

Thanks. Surgical Tubing is a good idea too. Maybe even for the snare. Lew

you could try using the new Ludwig atlas mount that replaces the lug. that way there is no drilling and you can fit the old lug back on if you ever sell the kit

Yes, or really any non-invasive mount. Like Gretsch GTS, ITS, Sonor TAR, there's loads of 'em.
