Two cymbal mounts on '64 ludwig bass drum? Last viewed: 11 hours ago

Has anyone ever seen two L-rod cymbal holders on a 60's downbeat set before?

I've seen rogers sets with two mounts and Buddy Rich had the splash in front of his tom, but has anyone ever seen one set up like that from the factory?

I have been asked to help "resurrect" a champagne sparkle downbeat set circa 1964 that has been in an attic for years. My friend sent me some pics of the set from back when it was being gigged, and it appears to have the additional mount.

The owner of the set passed away last year. So they are not parting with them, but I can't help but worry that the set is rotting away in an attic!

Here's a pic of the drums, I edited out the player, if his family is ok with it I'll post the full pics. Thus is the only set left, he at one time had some Camco drums and a rogers concert tom set also.

Drummers have ordered drum sets with two cymbal mounts, had dealers install second cymbal mounts, or added one themselves for as long as there have been drum sets. I don't understand what the big deal is about this drum set havng two cymbal mounts--especially if they both look like "factory-correct" equipment. Have I seen mid sixties Ludwig bass drums with two cymbal mounts? Who hasn't if they've paid close attention to the drum sets they've seen.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

That would be a pretty common modification, either ordered that way initially or added later.

That's a pretty unique setup in that first picture with a cymbal arm holding up the tom and the other one laying against the bass shell to put the cymbal in a very odd place.

the documentation on a ordered drum set with options would be great provenance for collectable drums, otherwise just another altered drum.....

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I guess I'm not overly worried if it's not factory correct, and yes the extra cymbal L rod used to mount the tom up high us pretty funny, although I've seen it done before.

Really I'm just excited to be rescuing these drums from the scrap heap.

Champagne sparkle wasnt my favorite, but all the old pearls and sparkles have their own certain kind of charm.

Can't wait to see what other cool old stuff is with them. I love attic and garage finds!
