Too Many Drums

Loading...

After having a long talk with my wife as well as fellow band mates, I've come to the conclusion that I've become a drum junkie and have forgotten the real reason I took up this instrument. I've aquired 20 kits and 30 snares over the last 10 years, not because I needed them, I just wanted more drums. It made me feel important and I liked getting the attention from other drummers when they would see my latest find. Over that same 10 years of gigging, I found myself using the same kit 99% of the time because it sounds so good. I've come to realize that I don't need all these kits to build my ego, my playing does that. So after much consideration, I'm donating two kits to local schools, selling 16 and keep my two favorites. I'll probably keep 10 snares, because I do need them for my various gigs

^Made me laugh.

Spartacus, that's understandable. Hope it works out. I look forward to seeing them posted on here for sale.

Years ago I thinned my collection out of all the items I wasn't using. Most of that included the beginner kits I had, but a lot of hardware. Granted I'm down to 16 kits and 34 snares ( down, that's the term, lol ) but I honestly swap kits routinely. It's become a thing when I play shows that no one knows what kit they'll see. But for me, if I am not gonna use it, should be sold / given to someone who will. So I certainly commend you for donating and being aware of having too much. Most of us could never say that, like me!

Ploughman, I do have a few Rogers, one I will be keeping, but I'm going to sell all my kits locally, too many to ship.

Most drummers are guilty of this........because of the money involved with collecting so many drums.

Some disagree with me when I claim that vintage MIJs are worthy enough to collect - without the financial burden on the rest of your budget.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

My first kit was a U.S.Mercury which I still have as well as a nice Tempro Pro kit. I agree they are worthy enough for collection. Even the entry level drums of the 1960's were far better in quality then what beginners get today. By leaps and bounds.

Local only. Boy Howdy, that is a relief. Now I don't have to feel pressured to come up with the money.
