Thoughts on using different brand for snare drum

What do you guys think about using a different brand snare drum than your kit? I'm talking with a modern drumset in this case. For example, a Yamaha kit with a Ludwig metal snare drum, etc. Or do you just prefer to use a snare drum that would be the same brand as your kit, assuming that the drum would be good quality?

As background, my "modern" kit is Yamaha maple. I use a few Yamaha wood snare drums, but I have various Ludwig metal snare drums. I know that Yamaha makes some metal drums as well, but not sure if it's worth making the switch. I seem to like the Ludwig tube lugs and their designs on metal snares (and the general mojo that seems to go with Ludwig), but that's just my take. On the other hand, for the shallow drums, I actually like Yamaha sizes more...the 5.5 vs 5. Just a thought.

How do you guys roll in this department? Talk amongst yourselves.

About the only time I've used a snare that matched the kit was when I played Ludwig. I used to collect Camco snares, but never played them with my Camco kits.

With my Premiers, I use everything in my collection, including Premier, Slingerland, Gretsch, and Pork Pie. All have different purposes.

Next month, I'm going to be using a Knucklehead snare.

Yeah, that's the way I'm leaning as well. No need to use the same brand I suppose! I'm starting to view the snare drum as a man's tie. Take a white shirt and put any kind of tie with it. In that case, the tie is the "statement," as is the snare drum is the statement with a drum set. Of course, one could also say that the cymbals are the "statement," and I'd agree with that too...

BAM! and BAM!

Yeah, I'm with the 99% on this one. My snare hardly ever matches my kit, even though I DID go out of my way to find/buy matching snares for most of my kits.

...but, how many ties do you own? Do you take Mrs. Bunnyman out to fancy dinners much, utilizing said ties? I imagine the analogy might hold more water if that factor were already in place...
