As beautiful as the Rogers Beavertail lugs are--and, I love them--i think that Leedy lugs are the most beautiful.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

I got these last year but never put them on this thread. 13,14,16,24. I have since picked up a matching 12. I also sold the super Ten that came with this set.

I've watched this thread and finally decided to add my butcher block kit following much procrastination. They aren't as special and unique as many of the drums previously submitted to this thread, but I will share non-the-less.

I also still have a black onyx Londoner V as well which I might post pic of later sometime.

Back in the 80's I had a bunch of other Rogers which I unfortunately sold, which included a double bass blue glass, three sets of red glass that included matching wood powertone and dynasonic snares that were perfect, a silver glass and a few orphans including a wood white marine dynasonic.

In 1974 I placed my order for the Rogers Londoner V drum set. They had reduced the color offerings substantially by then and did not list my favorite red glitter wrap so I had a very hard time choosing my second choice from the limited selections. I finally settled on the butcher block just as the kit was pictured in the '74 catalog with Steve Ettleson's picture. Fast forward to 1983 when I wanted to add more toms, the swivomatic hardware was gone along with internal tone controls, the shells became XP8, and butcher block was also not listed in the catalog. I got on the phone to Rogers and spoke with their employee Olga in sales asking about butcher block wrap. I was excited when she got back to me that there was still butcher block wrap in stock though not advertised as being available, and that they would honor my special order. Looking back to 1974, I should have called Rogers and asked about getting the kit in red glitter - they may have still had the material on hand even though not listed in their catalog.

So, I placed my order for four toms : 8X8, 8X10, 10X14 & 12X15 including two floor stands to support the toms. I have since often thought that these could be the only factory XP8 shells in butcher block that Rogers produced, for what that's worth.

Anyway, these attached pictures show the 5 piece set (photographed in 2017) just as I purchased them in 1974 (without cymbals) or accessories. The last photo shows the four additional drums stacked adjacent to the Londoner V but without the two floor stands.

Most of the original heads are still on the drums. The batter heads on the toms were replaced with pinstripes but I still have most of the original Rogers toms batter heads packed away. The bass drum as shown in the picture still has both of its original heads on it as well as the felt strips and original black paint on the hoops. I replaced most of the original cast knobby collet wing nuts with the earlier & stronger machined type. I realized very early on that the cast ones crack at the nose from over tightening, so I made the switch to preserve the originals which I have stored away.

I still have the '74 Rogers catalog, the store sales receipt(s), and the owners manuals for the foot pedal, hi-hat stand and dynasonic snare. I also have the Rogers 1983 catalog but did not include it in the photo with the rest of the paperwork.

These pictures were taken with the intent to sell the drums in 2017, but could not follow through with the sale after having them for so long, its now getting closer to 50 years. I realize that is not a record length of time compared to what some members here have had their kits, but perhaps it's somewhere in the ball park.

About ten years ago I started using the four XP8 shells in my turquoise/silver glitter Rogers kit to the left of the Hi-hat to expand the tonal range of that project. A picture of that kit can be found else where on this forum.

Wow, that may qualify as THE nicest Block kit on the planet! Congrats on preserving it so well for so long!

I'm really not a huge fan of any of the laminate-type wraps from any manufacturer of this era, but your kit is truly exceptional.

While I've never been a big fan of Butcher Block drums, I've got to admit that this kit is just beautiful! It takes lots of love and dedication to keep a vintage kit looking this good! Congrats! Bowing

Some may recall I had purchased this set earlier in the year 67-ish Swingtime. I only got to see it in July and didn't even have time to set it up. But I did find it had been a very good buy in very, very nice shape including original heads all around. It came with a 14x14 floor tom, but I'm not convinced it was original to the kit even though the seller was informed by the person he bought it from that it has all been together from day one. It might be so, but the 14x14 is speckled paint, later t-rods and star washers at the floor tom leg mounts. I found what I considered to be an era appropriate 16x16 and it was a perfect match and was also a flat grey drum like the bass, small tom and snare. So, for the moment I have two floor toms. Hoping to actually set it up and play it next spring.

Here’s an updated pic of my kit.

Also the repro bnb lugs didn’t fit my snare due to spacing, sent them back.

I managed to find 2 swivomatic cymbal arms for bass drum collets.
