Thinking for putting together a super fine Orphan Kit

My retirement drum project.....and it may be my last one......is to put together a unique orphan Gretsch kit - a four piece 50's early 60's shellpack.

I ALREADY HAVE A GOOD START:

I have a nice original Cadillac Green 9x13 Gretsch tom.

I also have a Gretsch Broadkaster Anniversary Diamond Sparkle Pearl - a black wrap with gold flecks - 16" floor tom. The drum was owned by Elvin Jones and I acquired it from Forum Member poppies (Mark) - thank you Mark.

So now I am looking for a Gretsch snare and bass drum. I want them to be from totally different kits and have some kind of unique history.

I thought I'd throw this out there in case anyone knows where there is a Louie Bellson bass drum stowed away for instance.

I think orphan drums may be easier to come by than looking for lost drums to match a kit for instance.

Nice project Kona!! I'm sure you will find what the drums you are looking for...

Hopefully, there will be more projects in the future for you...Like us all, we enjoy playing, but, we also like to bring old drums back to life as well!! Just sayin'...

Best of luck with the project...

Cheers

I was chatting with another member who made up a beautiful Caddy green kit from orphan shells- it looks great!

He has one original shell, and had a local body shop match the paint for the others. "Nissan Mystic Green" was the 'close' color, and it looks really good.

Like you, this is a long-term project of mine (so far, I have collected nothing!)... I love the color!

Thanks guys.

J!m - that person is me. The original cadi green drum in that orphan kit is going to be one of the drums in my Historic Orphan kit project.

I will be taking my time looking for some significant drums. Chet Falzerano just emailed me with some tips on what to look for. It's not going to be cheap but I will take my time with all this.
