Mel Taylor was one of the first Rock & Roll drummers to bring the drums out front.Sandy Nelson did it around the same time with "Let There Be Drums" but it was done with the Surf movement of drumming and completetly a different style.Mel had the dynamics,showmanship and versatilty in his "bag of tricks" and he`d keep the average audience listening to a ten minute drum solo without making them yawn and that was his dynamics that captured the listener`s ear...and he was a melodic player as well-alot of drum tools for the time...

Funny....after I learned the Safaris version of this in 1968........by around 71-72......I thought..."why not improvise on the solo....and not play so rigid...as the record?".........just like he did here!
