Midnite Blue Pearl LoLoLoLo
In the mid 70's this guy I knew at the time inherited a 1959 set in BOP. Not terribly unusual except it was an 8 piece drum set, with matching snare. It was all made in 59 because that was the one thing I could do to varify it all was original.and it was. It was the largest factory original vintage set of Ludwigs for that period I have ever seen. And it was in excellent condition. This friend of mine did'ent even play drums. He wasn't interested in selling at that moment. So I told him if he ever wanted to sell I would surely buy them. Well a month passed and I found out he sold the set right out from under me. I was ****ed a we where not as good of friend as I had hoped. That was 37 years ago and I my self have bought and sold a dozen or more kits. So to date I have three sets I like a whole lot. They are my first new kit a 70 Ludwig psycidelic red 5 piece matching, a 65 Ludwig BOP 6 piece w/ludwig BB snare, a 60 Slingerland Fiesta Pearl 4 piece matched kit. I all worked for the best.
I was a senior in high school when this kid asked me to come jam with him. I went to his house with a small cheap set I had because I wasn't taking my nice set to his house. He didn't like how my snare was sounding so he said try this one in here. He brought out the snare from a Ludwig BOP set. I asked to see the set and he showed it to me with all the original cases and hardware and the drums were in perfect condition. I can't remember the exact details about the kit but when I told him they may be worth money he said, "I should sell them to get band equipment."
I wish I had bought those from him, even if I had to beg, borrow, and plead for the money from my parents.
I've lost count CryBaby and moved on !!Walking
Is it just me, or does this thread make anyone else sick to their stomach? I've read some real heartbreakers for sure!!

First two that spring to mind:
1. Was in a second-hand shop in the early 90s and didn't know much about drums at the time, but while I was there a guy came in trying to unload a snare drum - a deep one, clear wood finish with brassy-looking lugs. The shop owner was offering him $25 max, but the poor guy was begging him to give him at least $50 for it - I wandered over and asked if I could see it. He pulled it out of the case, and I didn't recognize the name on the badge, so I said "no thanks. $50 is too rich for my blood". It wasn't until a couple of years later I realized what I had passed on. Turns out the drum was purchased by another local drummer I know for $65 from that same pawn shop. It's a Noble and Cooley 7x14" maple.
2. I Was on eBay late one night in the early 00s and browsing through page after page of drum sets - There was one that caught my eye that said "MP drum set - used". $200 opening bid. They had a couple of photos, but they were dreadful... blurry, like most digital pics were back then. It was quite obvious though, even with the bad photos, that the drums were DW. They had the rack toms mounted upside down, therefore the badges looked like they said "mP". I snickered, and thought nothing of it because surely if I recognized they were DWs, then hundreds of other people would too. When I checked back a couple of days later, they were sold - for $200. I nearly cried.
Craigslist Mod orange hollywood shell set with keystones, emailed and got a call back at 10:30 at night, had to make an appointment for the nex day, it was a church selling them, took off of work an hour early, I hit traffic so I pulled into a parking lot to call and tell them I was running late, and the the lady responded "oh we sold those drums last night." So am I supposed to belive tht the set sold at like 11pm??
I sat in that parking lot for like 20 minutes.
the set was 150.00CryBaby
my problem is i did not let them get away i am starting now !!!!!
