I see alot of pictures in here of old drums. Whats the oldest "set" anyone has in here.. Mines a 1939 WFL "president" badge 28,10,16 9x14s.. Is there any value to this? It has a double throw off on the snare, is all original w/ calf skins too {not tacked}. All the bells and whistles, cowbell, woodblock, and stands {marked}.. I was talking with WF Ludwig the 3rd {nice guy} and we browsed his books and it wasnt in them. These drums were made by his grandpa.. Was cool to reminiss..
The oldest drum set
The WFL snare with twin throws is for sure a nice drum and very collectible.
Yes, there is value to the set based on condition, originality, etc...
Can you post a picture of it.

I would love to see pics of that set. I have about seven of those twin throw off snares and two full sets from the 40's. Both zephyr lug sets as one is a '41 and the other is a '46. What color is your set? What is the condition? That badge probobly indicates 1937-38. It was used for a very short time when the company got going. Thanks.

Yes the badge could be earlier. I was told this badge was used for 2 years. Condition is unreal for a drum set thats this old.. So how much did you pay on average for those double throw Ludwigs? Are they 8"+?
I have gotten pretty good deals on most of them. My nicest one was found at an estate auction 14 years ago and I paid $55.00 for it! I would like to hope they can sell between $6-800.00 depending on condition and color. WMP and Ducos seem to be pretty common. The sparkles are rare and the BDP ones are kind of rare. I think some of the rarest and nicest ones have that marine pearl with an outer color of blue or red.
Is your snare like the bass drum in the fact that it is a duco? I would love to see a pic of the snare sometime.
Wow thanks for sharing that wit me. I never stop learning.
Kurt yes it is Duco the whole set is and matching pieces and the 10" has the same inlay on the bottom of the drum as is on the bass, but the 10 has no rim/head, its suppose to be this way..
Rich that set is cool. After reviewing the photo to the far right I notice those lil bell cymbals attached to the hoop. I have a set of those and wondered where they were from. I bought them for a buck in the bottom of a box old hardware. They are sweeeet sounding lil cymbals too {if thats what they're called}. Ill show you when I get to putting pics up..
My 1941 WFL marble set has two toms that have a strip of spakle inlay on the bottom of the toms and no head or mounting hardware. They have top heads though. If that is what you mean then that is normal. Sounds like a nice set.

My oldest kit is a 1944-45 Ludwig & Ludwig Victory outfit:

It belonged to Don Maddox from Maddox Brothers & Rose, I'm the 2nd owner. Well, a shop got it from him and had it for a year, then I grabbed it. :)
FYI my newest kit is a Ludwig Keystone, made on May 15!
Bermuda
Bermuda, could you please post a soundfile or vid of that kit? I would love to hear what it sounds like, it truly is a thing of beauty. You lucky devil you.
