The Camco - Tama - DW DNA

Just posted this on another site, but I think this may be more interesting to us vintage addicts:

I'd heard the story about how DW bought the rights to Camco pedals. Tama figures in there somewhere too, I think (?).

But this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-70s-DW-5000-Bass-Drum-PEDAL-/280890532795?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item41666163bb

Is SO cool. It IS the Camco, with a DW foot board! The frame, the heel, the round cam design -- which is one of the A+ reasons to play a Camco. All the parts are right out of the Camco inventory.

That just strikes me as very cool.... I'm tempted to buy it just because it's such a great piece, but....

Good ol' Camco. Whatever happened to them?? There's probably a link that would take me right to the story.

Check this site for the origination of the Camco chain pedal. I saw my first in 1976.

From bfulton

Camco was the FIRST pedal with chain drive?Awesome!!

Al Duffy was the first to modify Camco, Gretsch and others with a sprocket and chain. I believe DW was the first out with Al's design and TAMA eventually introduced their version.

:)

Never play it the same way once.

Camco never had a chain drive pedal. However I did purchase one recently that someone put a DW sprocket in on it. I use it to yank some chains here and there!
