I stopped at a drum shop tonight just to have a look around and ended up coming home with this muffler 'cause it caught my eye. Anyways, I know it's obviously Gretsch but that's about it. Is it from the 60's? Are these less common than Ludwig, Slingerland, etc. equivalents? I know I've seen the Slingerland version with the holes in the metal plate numerous times in the past but I don't recall seeing the Gretsch ones all that often...I'm sure they're out there. Finally...what's this one worth?
Tell Me About My Gretsch Bass Drum Hoop Muffler
I have a feeling it's from the 50's or 60's. Like those of Ludwig and Slingerland, it was most likely made by Walberg & Auge. That's my logical guess. Maybe others will know for certain. As to price, hard to tell. Maybe anywhere between $25-$100?

That's a really rare one!...Nice grab!
Never have seen one,and I have seen a bunch.....
I am guessing 40's-50's on it...
Get some Simichrome polish and go to town on it.....
Thanks for the input gentlemen!
Blair, I was hoping someone would tell me it was rare, thanks!
With the little bit of research I have been able to do it looks like "the go-to" Gretsch muffler was the Pratt internal adjustable design...but I don't know for sure. I'm not that fluent with Gretsch.
Great resources here! Looking at the '48 and '54 Gretsch catalogs, this appears to be a 5436 "Three-Way" muffler.
