Swap my Ludwig SC for a Gretsch RB ? Last viewed: 8 hours ago

Hi Folks,

Your thoughts please.

A couple of weeks ago, I put up my 1966 BDP Ludwig Super Classic for sale but didn't get the response I hoped for.

Matching serials on 3-piece set incl. LM400, also 1966 with a serial very close to the set. The set has pristine white Interiors, all stamped same date. The bass drum has been patched up bottom right and there's small damage on the inlay hoop. The Supra shows superficial pitting behind the strainer.

In the mean time an opportunity came up and I'm considering to swap the 4-piece Luddies for a mid 60's 3-piece round badge Gretsch in silver sparkle. (20", 16", 13"). Original wrap in good condition. All original mufflers, cymbal L-arm and tom mount present. Hoop inlays have been replaced and no paper tags.

Since I have another Ludwig project on the shelf, I wouldn't mind to have a go at this Gretsch set. I must admit that I have very limited experience on Gretsch but I heard fabulous things about them and I suppose they're rarer compared to the Ludwigs.

What can you specialists advise me?

Value wise, would it make sense?

Thanks

If you like the Ludwig sound, you may not like the Gretsch. I have owned a few 70's Gretsch kits and never liked them as much as my Ludwigs, but if you're going to flip them, you would probably get more for the Gretsch because they are a round badge. That's just my opinion, I know there are a lot of Gretsch freaks that love that Great Gretsch sound.
