Slip a bit of rubber tubing on the tension screw between the rounded thread housings. Get your tension to where you like it, and the tube long enough to hold it in place.

Some time in the late '70s or early 80's Ludwig started putting rubber washers on the P85's. I have a mid '80s 6.5x14 S/L snare that has one. Maybe try finding one of those and it should retrofit onto the P83.

I have a 68 Supra and it doesn't have this problem. Is it possible that the snare attachment cords are loosening where they are tied and this is possibly why you have to adjust it??

I know they are a booger to tie and tie tight! I have had to re tie the cords on my Supra several times after removing the snares to change the reso head.

I've been having this exact same problem, but with a p-85, WITH the rubber washer! Thought the cords were tied tight, (triple knot) but just retied them today, and played for a bit, and I think it may just have done the trick, (I hope). It was really driving me crazy. Here's a question though; my Supra's a 67 - should it actually have a p-83? Have an extra one on an old crown snare I could easily swap to make more authentic...

67 models were still using p83's.

I am going to carefully retie and tighten and test before I mess with the P-83. I will post results. Thx

Try looping the cord through four holes of the strainer instead of two. I do that on my strainers where possible and it seems to help keep the cord tighter. Go in from the front on two of the lower holes, then loop back out from the back through two holes above the ones you just put the cord through then tie the knot. It should help keep the knot from slipping.
