Super Ludwig 400 Last viewed: 8 hours ago

I Just bought what at first it seemed like a vintage supraphonic but after some research i've found that it really is a super ludwig 400, this one has a badge without serial number, factory-crimped snare beds, the batter hoop isn't COB but the resonant hoop is COB and knob damper, the thing is that it has like a crimped bed for the butt plate, is this normal? or it's a blow to the shell? haha

Thanks!

Welcome Metal,

Hopefully it's not a "blow to the shell"

If you search on the site about your snare, you'll get lots of answers.

Here's a quick rundown, I came here looking for the same info;

Super Ludwig 400 or Chrome over Brass, ect.

Crimped snare beds, sounds like ya got 'em on both sides under the strainer & butt plate, inward indentation at the bottom

A very clean & smooth shell, meaning there is'nt any rust, rough spots or blemishes anywhere on the outside of the drum. Just some nice shiny chrome

A visible horizontal seam inside of your snare, if you can't see it, do'nt be afraid to take it apart and have a good look. Do'nt worry about taking off the skins and the tension rods (screws)

A 3/4 inch wide dampener, the round knob that ya can turn

& post some pics if you can, much better, with the badge or logo included

There ya go, Cheers

& I forgot one;

When you look inside the shell, the edges inside are kind of rolled towards the inside of the shell, rolled over, instead of rolled and going upwards or downwards

thanks!! BTW i do know how to use the search button but i'm bad at it haha!, but i haven't found the info on this special thing...

i've found this in my snare:

like a small crimp on the screws of the butt plate, is this normal?

mine has almost the same crimp, but it's more "visible"

Thanks man!

No, that's not normal; the crimp for the bed is on the bearing edge, and encroaches as an arc up the side a bit, but not very high. The damage you've pictured was caused by a drop. It wouldn't be too difficult to coax back into shape, though.

Hi Ron! Thanks for the reply! how would you sugest to fix that drop? it's really easy for an average "tool-capable" guy? or more like "easy to fix" for a professional car shop guy? hahaha

My Super had a few indentations like yours, around the throwoff and butt plate. When I had the drum completely stripped of parts, I gently tapped them out with a rubber mallet. Just had the shell laying flat on the edge of a firm table, as to not hammer on the center bead, with a towel inbetween. Just be gentle.
