Super Gene Krupa switch-out advice needed Last viewed: 21 hours ago

Wondering if anyone here has switched out their clamshell strainer with different, more user friendly one . . . either 3rd party modern or vintage?

I would not want to drill new holes if at all possible. The Radio King is one from 1958 and has great tone, but the clamshell is a PITA!

Is there a happy solution out there guys? Your help is appreciated.

When I received my RK, it was nothing but a shell, lugs, and top hoop. If a three-point strainer and bridges ever fall into my lap, I'll consider using them, but in the meantime, I built adapters to mount up a Trick throwoff and butt plate.

Since the clamshell has fewer holes than a 3-point and they're a lot closer together, an adapter for yours would look a whole lot more graceful than mine! (It may not be the prettiest thing in the world, but it sounds fantastic, works like a charm, and I didn't drill the drum!)
