Standards Return

Loading...

I sold this kit about six months ago to a friend of mine, he traded it back to me today for my Rochefort kit. This is a 1971 Ludwig Standard in a bronze strata finish and in near mint condition.

While we were in my rehearsal room, he noticed my 24" Rogers XP8 kick and said he has a 13 and 16 just laying around that he would give to me. He said they looked like a wood wrap, so it's probably koa, but it makes no difference, I'll take any free vintage Rogers drums.Cool1

I've got some notes that cane from a post that member KO made that I always refer to.

Bronze=Primarily Orange and Black swirled together.

Gold= Has Silver and White along with Gold/Orange.

If that wrap has white in it, it is Gold Strata. If no white, then it's Bronze Strata.

Hopefully KO can give you a definite.

Thanks, she is a beauty, one of the cleanest Standards I've seen and it sounds fantastic.

Here's the color swatch. I'm guessing gold. In any event, it's a real looker. Nice that it came back your way:

It's funny you say that, the guy I originally got the kit from wants it back. Ok, now try to keep up, the names have been changed to protect the innocent. Scooter traded me Standard for a black Rogers, I sold Standard to Blake, fastfoward, I bought a WFL from Blake, sold it back to Blake a few months later and bought Rochefort. I traded Rochefort to Scooter for Duplex, a month later, I traded Duplex back to Scooter for Rochefort. I traded Rochefort to Blake for Standard, just last night, Scooter text me and wants to trade Duplex for Standard.

I told him I wanted to hang on to Standard, he then told me while he was in NY, he talked with Steve Maxwell about Duplex. Steve Maxwell told him that he, (Steve), could sell Duplex for three grand because they are so rare and he would buy them off Scooter for $1,700. I told Scooter he should sell them, why in the world would you want to trade them if you can get $1,700. Ya think he's yanking my chain?

No, he just can't bear to think that he'll only get $1700 and a drum shop (with all the NYC overhead) will "get" $3k. In any event Johnny, you and I are on the same page - SELL!!!

On the other hand, maybe you should get the Duplex back and sell them for $1700 and then back the MIJ kit back for $300. ;)

That's a thought Dan, however, when I was in procession of the Duplex, I emailed Steve Maxwell on it's value. He said although it's a very rare kit, there isn't a big market for them and I could expect to get a grand. That's a far cry from three grand or even $1,700. So, I don't know what the true value is.
