I've seen that. There is one on CL here in Boston that recently went for about that too. Good drums, I guess, with some pretty funky wraps!

Don't mean to be a stick-in-the-mud... but am I missing something?

I just did an ebay search for "Ludwig Standard" in percussion... and found a couple of sets where they were ASKING for a grand or more. I also did a search on "sold listings" and found no sets bringing that much in the last week. What someone is ASKING for and what it actually ends up GOING for can be two very different animals.

So if I've missed them somehow, please post a link.

Not that I'm knocking Ludwig Standards. Like their Club Date cousins their quality has proven the test of time in my book. I just haven't seen them bring that much!

I follow Standard's 'kind' of closely... not everyday, but at least once a week. A regular 22, 12, 13, 16 kit with the matching snare seems to be going for around $800 or so... plus or minus for additional stuff and condition. The Jazz kits are a different story. A good 20, 12, 14 will go for over 1k easy.

Of course, if the kit in question is Avocado Strata... well, those are priceless, obviously. :)

The reason, they're fetching that kind of coin,is because we've talked them up on drum forums, and told the world, that they're the same shells as the classics and clud dates......soo look, oops, I just did it again.Isn't that the name of a song?;)

And Sheryl Crow's drummer was recently spotted on television playing a set.

But I'd argue the increased value is only for the cool wrap Standards.

Ludwig vintage kits have done wonders for the world economy. Think of it. How many times has a vintage Ludwig kit been sold, then resold, etc., etc.

I'd just settle for being able to buy the original strata wrap for a re-wrap. My Charcoal Astro Jazz kit is fugly. The wrap is trashed and I want them in blue or avocado strata.
