Ssb vs rb vs drop g Last viewed: 1 day ago

Has anybody tried all three.

Specifically.. the thinner shelled fully round / flat bearing edges of some of the 70's drums vs the 60's outside roundover edge. For all the toms.

I've owned all three, have the ssb and drop g now, I prefer them over the round badge. The sound from those shells with the sharper bearing edges sounds better to my ears.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

Nice. My kit is mixed. Rb and drop g tom, early ssb bass.

I have never heard a vintage drop g kit in person. I have played round badge .. and individual ssb drums.

Had a SSB that was gorgeous. Sold it recently for a small profit. Great 70's sound. Really good recording kit.

I have a RB badge set up in my practice room, even more tone for my ear. Lots of charactar in the sound.

In all the toms are similar-ish. The edge goes to the RBs. But the big leap for me is in the Kik drum. The tone on the RB leaves the SSB standing.

I guess a better question is... which are louder? Which have more stick definition?

Round badge kick drum by a long shot. Many recordings of other kits with an old rb kick. A friend has a 20" and it is killer.

The toms are all good- maybe one is better than another for a specific tuning or sound, but they are all serviceable. Rim mounts (or snare basket) and the 12's sing out.

Out of the RB's and SSB's, I really couldn't say theres anything in it for all out VOLUME. But the RB toms are more articulate for me.
