SS or Vistalites?

Loading...

I started to wonder about which set would command more of a return for a collector. Let's say same year production, same drum size combinations and both in excellent condition. Use my SS set as an example. (minus value of cymbals of course)

Which set would be more desirable?

Loud 70's Ludwig 24-13-14-16-18 Pro-Beat Stainless steel

I would say the stainless, most rockers would compare the two sounds and the stainless will deliver that Rock !! (better than most)

Even so on the return,..the stainless has more steps to produce and the asking price should be more !!

Yeah OddBall I was thinking the same thing you know plastic vs. stainless steel.

But then I read on this site that the values of Vistalites in Amber and green could fetch a handsome amount. Well that gets me to a thinking what are stainless steel sets worth?

I must admit that I am fond of the look of the Vistalite sets. All that color! Reminds me of candy!

Finding the rare color vista doesn`t guarantee an un blemished one. It`s hard to find a vintage vista or any vista for sale without non repairable scratches or over tightening cracks. One could polish SS back to factory finnishes !! So it would depend on condition, sizes and finnish just to consider getting a return on investment !! Disireable,...now that`s a matter of rarity/condition for a collector and taste/sizes for a drummer !!

I would still think that the SS kits are more sought after and admired.

From what I read, I personally think Bonzo wasn`t too fond of his acrylic (he didn`t like e`m) and Moon didn`t like the sounds of his kits either. Both guys` kits would fetch a pretty penny anyhow !! Both would have been better served if they invested in acrylic Phonics/Super Champions.

Although when I was at the Garden in 76,(I think) Moon canceled the first gig, but he was quite impressed by the older black guy (who`s name escapes me) that was entertainning the crowd under the train bridge with white buckets and spoons. He`s well known in Boston !!

Stainless steel vs. cheap plastic? It is a no brainer. Stainless Steel anything wins out over cheap plastic anything everyday, and twice on Sunday! D' Drummer
