Speed King Q.

My last mystery, it involves a rivet on the top of the footboard, it goes through the cast footboard but holds onto nothing,....I was clean`n it and wondered why they would put a rivet into a hole that does nothing ?? It`s just a rivet in a hole !!

it is there to hold the retaining clip in place .IF It wasn't there the pedal wouldn't be able to hold onto the footboard!

were talking about the same thing without it your pedal every up stroke the clip would disengage without it, and disconnect from the foot board, the three speed kings I'm showing the last two are like yours the first one is a very early speed king it doesn't have the rivet in it!

That rivet is supposed to be retaining a metal spring clip that is bent in such a way to apply pressure to the bottom edge of the footboard link when it is attached for playing mode. Your pedal seems to be missing that spring clip. The clip helps keep the link in place and not allow it to detach from the footboard while playing. Without it, you risk the link coming undone from the footboard. Unfotunately it is not a part that Ludwig sold as a service part. The only way you could get it from Ludwig was to purchase a footboard assembly.
