Found this while browsing craigslist. If these were in my hometown, i'd nab them. He says "grey and blue pearl still under paint"..I'm assuming that he's referring to a possible Blue Oyster Pearl..They would probably clean up nicely..

He also doesn't mention the Rogers snare drum..

Slingy snare has bridges for the snares, might be a radio king model.

Cool ! If you do get 'em, let us know what's underneath that obvious lead paint ;)..The good thing about them being painted is that the finish is somewhat protected. However, they will require plenty of elbow grease ;)

Good luck !

The paint is spray enamel

and the original wraps are black diamond pearl

One snare drum is a Rogers powertone

the other is a Radio King the two 16" floor toms one sling one luddy

both have batter and resonant side heads intact

The two mounted toms one of each have no resonant side heads hoops or hardware

The seller also has a huge trap case with stands and accessories that range from original fifties gear to brand new

There are at least four or five vintage Zildjian cymbals and a DW 7000 double bass pedal

I spoke to Howard "Mitch" the seller at great length (approx an hour and a half )

early on Saturday evening my friend and fellow VDF member richm found the ad

And forwarded the link to me

I called immediately the original ad was titled full slingerland and Ludwig drums

and there was only one very bad picture of the drums

At that time the seller still had the drums I told him I lived in Rhode Island and asked him right off the bat to please disregard the long distance between us

and that I was a very serious drum buyer and could come for the drums without any problem Incredibly this seller Tells me he has business of some sort that would bring him to Ct, and that he could hand off the drums there and save me some driving

I did not ask for this the seller offered to meet me I believe in New London or somewhere thereabouts so we are talking I asked for a few better pictures he sent them

at some point he gets around to mentioning that he was not exactly sure where he had the Slingerland bass drum stored but that he was 90% sure he could find it

Now I was at odds I wanted the drums Slingerland bass drum or no Slingerland bass drum

But I felt like the only possibility of getting the missing bass drum was to be patient and let him look for it as he offered to do

meanwhile all of my comments about the rest of the gear was positive

I liked his price I liked the drums ..ect ect I

told him more than once I could pay him in full for the drums even while he looked for the missing bass drum

But I never actually said the words I will take the drums with or without the missing bass drum (even though of course I would have)

and there were two reasons why

first I did not think I had to, based on our lengthy conversation and seemingly fantastic rapport including his own idea to meet in Connecticut I would have driven to him had he not offered

and the other reason was I felt that if I told this fellow I would take the drums with or without the bass drum that he may not be as motivated to look any further for the missing drum BIG MISTAKE!!

As of Monday morning he was still looking for the bass

By Monday afternoon he side stepped our negotiations and agreed to sell the drums to the guy behind me because when this guy called and the seller mentioned he had a arrangement with me but was looking for the bass drum ..this new buyer smartly offered to buy the drums without the Slingerland bass drum

Instead of the seller picking up the phone letting me know about this offer

he decided after all the conversation and back and forth and good rapport to take the guys offer

But if this new buyer was brain dead enough to walk away from a honey hole deal like this that He would surely let me know

Jay buddy, the drums are gone they sold this afternoon to a

Joseph Barthelette of Chicopee Mass

He already has the paint removed from the Slingerland Radio King snare

I have missed out before due to some unpredictable snafu with Craig's list sellers ..But yes this one hurts

Always another whack a mole that will pop up. We'll get the next one.

But that is ****ty - like ****ty. That's all I have to say about that. And had I been the guy behind you, and found this out, I'd have turned right to you.

Yes Indeed Jay,

I am somewhat out of my element

going after the vintage American made gear

But I learned a good lesson with this

On the next "obvious" honey hole deal

no matter how warm and cozy and agreeable the seller may seem

I will pay up first and iron out the fine details later
