Some questions regarding my 60's Supraphonics

Loading...

Hi all

I have 2 real nice Supraphonics here & going a little crazy trying to figure out with the Ludwig Book so thought I would ask the pros!

On the left 1965 (sn-252083 no date stamp).

Please note the tone control is the round knob (3/4")

On the right 1967 (date stamped July 19 sn-628739) & this has the P-4067 Baseball bat.

My #1 question is:

were the 3/4 round knobs used PRE baseball bat with round black felt?

#2 at second pic.

The 1967 P-83 throw off seems to have a larger "top" than the 65. It seems to be a combo of an earlier & later one.

My # 2 question is could this be original?

I have read the folks at the factory used various parts in time when needed.

Final question: why is the bottom snare rim on the 65 bent (left) as the 67 is straight?

Looking forward to some schooling..Help2

I think that the knob muffler on the one is a replacement someone put on. That drum should have a BB muffler and the knob used prior to those was smaller than the one you have there.

The throw off on the later drum looks like a combination of P-83 and P-84 parts, probably not factory (but with Ludwig you never can be 100% certain).

The hoop that has the dip in it for the snare gate is probably an earlier brass one (which is likely original to the drum) while the other one is steel.

also, if it originally had a BB muffler one of the mounting holes will be much bigger like this one http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=22073&d=1288846493

Morning,

I have a supra # in the 69000's. It has the 3/4 knob w/ the round black felt. I believe that it's original to the snare,

for those two drums mentioned in this topic that have the 3/4 mufflers that were in the commonly seen baseball bat era, just check the muffler holes. if they originally came with round knob mufflers, the holes for the knob and the mounting screw would be near the same size. if they were intended to have baseball bat mufflers, the hole for the muffler arm would be much larger.

Holes appear to match.

I also have some symphonic snares from 60-61 (pre serial keystone badges) that have the same 3/4" knob & black felt.

Regarding the 1965 with the bottom snare hoop with the bend in it, this means the rims are COB correct?

Thank you all.
