What kind of wires are these? They are off a 15" marching drum. I want to use the p87 strainer from the marcher on a 14" snare drum. It looks like I could shorten these up with no problem, question is, will they sound good? I see puresound has regular wires for the p87 but they are very expensive, like between 70 and 100.00.

Those are "cable" wires, and as such will be VERY DRY sounding. That may be good for you, or bad, contingent on playing style and what you are looking for sound wise. I will say that "dry" sounding wires demand more in the way of chops and articulation from the player as they are kinda unforgiving. They are extremely ACCURATE/FOCUSED. As to the brand here, I can't say. I would suspect that you might deem them too DRY sounding for what you like.

Thanks Tommy. Trying to decide weather or not to use the p87 strainer on my snare drum project. I am a little concerned about getting a set of wires to work with that strainer, looks like Puresound stopped production of the replacement wires for the p87. Are there other wires that can be used with it or will I be stuck paying 100.00 for a set on ebay or something, thats the issue.

Those look like Patterson cable snares which are designed for symphonic work. Very dry and dark compared to wire snares.
