Snare Stand for Toms Last viewed: 1 minute ago

I just ran across a picture in a book of jazz photos from the 50's that showed a drummer with his mounted tom on a snare stand. I don't recall who it was (it wasn't a photo of the drummer himself but he was in the background) but I'll see if I can find it again and post it here. Obviously the idea did occur to at least a few drummers throughout the years.

Not really the subject here, but DW makes this over priced beast that mounts up to 16" toms on a snare stand..http://www.dwdrums.com/hardware/hw.asp?hw=dwcp9399&v=XIUnec8blnY

Those rubber isolation tips on it look pretty cool though. At first glance it looks like it'd be a great stand for a tom.

Yes, but you can pick up a cheap and effective alternative called

"Booty Shakers".. (funny name, i know !) They're under $20 and the thick foam isolation tips work really well, and look really sleek.

I use a set of these and they work fantastic!

Or the cheaper version that I'm rocking; an old 60s flat base Pearl stand (which has a bit of give to it) and a small piece of foam glued to the inside of each of the basket claws. My Radio King has single flange hoops (with claws) so because the hoop is straight it allows me to put a small piece of end rubber pinchweld at each area where the hoop sits on the foam, increasing the isolation. Works a treat, huge amount of sustain (I normally have a couple of pieces of thick gaffer on the top and use the internal muffler on the bottom) but a full frequency range, not missing the mids or lows like it was when I had no isolation on it at the start. It's not as clean visually as the Booty Shakers on a nice stand but I think the whole setup, stand included, cost me less than $40AUD.
