That is a very nice drum..........I know because my wife found one just like it in a secondhand/pawnshop last year. She said there's a Gretsch drum-white-with a square badge on it .....you should go see.

I thought it was going to be a WMP Cat....which is alright.

Well imagine my surprise when I saw same drum as yours........stand and all. I scooped it right away and I like the drum......sounds very 'snare-ish' kind of like the Acrolite.

Congratulations - Nice find! :)

The brushed aluminum looks really nice. What is the Premier model you are referring to

I'm assuming Blair is referring to the Hi Fi model that came in the brushed finish. http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/images/premier_drumsets/1972-premier-catalog-5.jpg I'd be happy to own any of them myself - Gretsch, Premier, Slingerland...

Nice work by your wife! Mine came with a stand as well. Do you have a picture of the stand you got with yours? I would assume these drums would sound similar to an Acrolite seeing as they are the same material and era and all that.

That's a sweet looking drum! How come the aluminum Acrolite is so popular and numerous and the other brand's aluminum snares seem comparatively rare?

Yes,the Hi Fi in Brushed Chrome is the 1......

One just sold on Feebay very recently in almost mint shape for $225.

It was the rare Resonator version too.

I have the exact drum, but mine has quite a bit of plating missing.........got it for $25 though!

Go to completed auctions, and see if you can find the Prem....

That is one of my favorites snares in the whole world right now IN GREAT SHAPE.

Art Deco lugs, low mass die cast rims, brushed chrome......thing belongs in the Louvre!

Drums as art,indeed.

Oh man..........

a 6-12 by 14 brushed chrome HI FI!

I don't see that listed in any of my Prem catalogs.........

One was just found in the UK recently too though,so I guess they are out there...........

I would pay $100 all day long for that drum in that condition!

So a little update on this drum...

Got some new snare wires and put them on. Ordered in Aquarian Vintage heads and put those on. Tuned it up and it sounds great! I've played it at church and really enjoyed it. I've never owned a metal snare so this drum is a new flavour for me. I really enjoy the tone. It has that metallic ring that metal snares have but it is controlled and not harsh. I couldn't be more pleased with this drum.

And the Gretsch paper label looks great too. So it's a lifetime guarantee - hmm...how would Gretch handle it if you contacted them for a refund? :)

That label looks TOO good. WOW! Where was that baby stored? Lately, I've been more interested in hearing what these aluminum snares sound like. You sure got a pretty one.

Enjoy.

Yeah there is no doubt it is in good shape. The previous owner had it given to them and it was in storage before they decided to pass it on to me. The drum I believe had factory heads on it and they were barely used. I would hazard a guess and say this drum has sat in storage for most of it's 40 years of life, hence the great condition. In the end it can look good but it's gotta sound good too and I think it sounds very good.
