Smaller bowtie lugs on WFL and early Ludwig Clubdates Last viewed: 11 hours ago

Hey everyone I have been thinking about building a project kit since I have a WFL marcher hanging around that I could convert to a Clubdate floor tom. Trying to be period correct it looks like the bass drum during this floor tom size would have small bowtie lugs:

It would seem that the 1962 Catalog was the last one to feature what I believe are smaller bowtie lugs on the bass drum before the Clubdate changed to 20" bass drum and 14" floor tom. Would appreciate any feedback from anyone who has a kit from this era.

Thanks,

Manny

ive got a 61 clubdate bass drum that's a 22. it has the longer bowties like the 14 floor toms have. the 12x15 floor toms always had the shorter lugs like the snares and the clubdate toms.

Mike,

Thanks for the prompt reply. The 12x15 I think would be a cool size to build out even if I don't make a full kit. I found these pictures that are somewhat of a guide in my strange quest.

The only issue is that I would have extra holes in the 12x15 so going a natural interior it would be very obvious. Going the white interior route (which would be correct it seems up until 1962) would be the only way around the obvious aside from a very thin veneer.

My friend who paints cars could likely copy the duco paint job exactly which would be even better. I would be interested to actually play a full ducco Ludwig kit. I imagine it would sing a little more over a wrapped kit.
