I Found this guy on Craigslist for a massive $50.00!! I gently cleaned it up and replaced the the beat up heads and generic snare wires with some Aquarian American Vintage heads (which I've never tried before) and some Puresound Custom Snare wires. The drum sounds great, I felt like the Aquarians were a good change up from my regular Remos due to the FAT bearing edges on this baby and I'm loving the combo. Everything appeared original other than the heads and wires with the one exception being the original Slingerland Strainer that came with this model was replaced with a chrome WFL P-83 strainer which works just fine with this drum and thankfully did not require new holes to install. Ideally, I would like to have the correct strainer that came with the Deluxe Student Model so if anyone that wants to trade a Slingerland strainer for a more desirable WFL P-83 let me know we can do a straight up swap and hopefully we will BOTH up with 2 more historically accurate snares! Kiss Other than that issue I am very happy to add another 6 lugger to my arsenal, I know I have expressed my love for the 6 lug student models in previous posts and this one is no exception. There is an open woody tone that you just can't get from drums with more lugs. This drum will complete my collection from the big 4: I have the Gretsch Dixieland in WMP, Ludwig Pioneer Transition badge in blue/silver Duco, Rogers Luxor in Blue Sparkle that matchs my Dayton era Tower kit and now this baby! I'm also a BIG fan of my B/O pointy badge Acrolite which was marketed as a student model as well but still seems to get more use than my Supraphonic which has been gathering dust since I picked up the Acro. Anyhow, moral of the story: Keep watching CL guys there's gold in them there hills!!!!:D

Yeah, the lowly 6 lugger don't command any respect, but they're still very collectable imo.

I love the 6 luggers. I prefer Pioneers to Jazzfests. I love the Hollywood Ace/Artist series drums from Slingy, but the student model 6 luggers are killer as well!
