Slingy Combo-Be Bop

Loading...

I'm going to look at these this afternoon. Consists of an 18X20 FT/BD and a 4X13 snare drum. The BD/FT has one wood hoop and one metal hoop. The guy thinks the drums are from the late 1940 or possibly the 1950s. BD/FT has been spray painted, and the snare drum has been re-wrapped.

I'm curious to know the rarity of the 13" snare drum, as I don't see that it was offered during this time-frame, except as part of this configuration.

I believe I can snag the kit for about $600. What do you guys think - should I go for it?

My gut reaction is that it's too much.

I have no supporting history for that.

But both drums have been altered.

Is the outfit complete with pedal, cymbals and arms?

Further info - Includes all hardware, and 2 additional vintage Slingerland drums that were added on to "complete the set".

Need to see photos to be sure as to what it is. However, Slingerland did offer a bass/floor tom drum that had a metal hoop and wood hoop, however, I have usually seen the 20" version (which had an 18" depth). The idea was the it could be used either way. It was often accompanied with a 4x13" matching snare for a cocktail combo. The 4x13s can also be desirable. I am sure an 18" version of the above bass could be possible. The era sounds right for that type of set up.

If it is correct and all original with a good finish, $600 might not be a bad price. However, that is all purely speculation pending some photos being posted.

Checked these out on Friday evening. It is a 20" diameter BD/FT with 13" snare drum. Interesting set up. Also, a 16" Radio King FT and 12" Leedy tom. Unfortunately, all drums had been poorly re-wrapped, and the BD/FT was missing the leg mounts. I passed on these, but did pick up some cymbals the guy had - Trans stamped A. Zildjians! A 20" ride and a pair of 15" hi-hats. Haven't weighed them yet, but they are all quite thin, and in excellent condition. For $300, it made it well worth the trip.
