Hey all,
I just got an awesome 1940 Leedy Broadway Standard snare (6.5x14 with a white Duco finish). It has an Aquarian Med American Vintage head on it and the drum absolutely barks at lower tensions. I love it...maybe as much as my 40's 7x14 RK. I can't wait to get the Puresound extended wires for it. It is going to be even MORE amazing.
I have had one serious problem with it so far though: The Strainer. I seem to have this problem with a lot of my strainers (namely the Slingerland Rapid and the Ludwig P83...but sometimes even with my newer Dunnett strainer).
When I am playing a show or rehearsing, sometimes I can't even make it through a song before the tension knob loosens up and the snares are near off. It sucks because I love the sound of these old drums, but the hassle of having to tighten up the snares (sometimes multiple times in one song) is just too much to justify using them on most high-pressure gigs.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem? Do I just have them set up wrong? They seem like some of the simplest strainers out there. I don't know how else I could set them up to solve this prob other than to tape them in place or something?
Any help is much appreciated as always!
