Up for sale is a sweet 1960 Chicago badge Slingerland snare drum in beautiful condition. The shell features mahogany, poplar, mahogany with maple hoops. Both the maple and mahogany are highly figured.
The original wrap is very very clean and has plenty of white with minimal fading. To me, it has the perfect amount of creaminess to the finish. There are some minor scratches here and there. but nothing noticeable a few feet away.
I believe the drum is 100% original with the exception of the heads and the strings holding the wires. The wires are original and straighten up nicely when the snares are engaged. It is missing one strand. The tension rods, washers and clips are in really nice shape. The hoops are very clean. The Rapid strainer is the earlier version without the rubber washer and features the stopping mechanism that keeps it from rattling when the snares are disengaged (unlike my 1969 Hollywood Ace). Not sure why they later switched to the other version. This version is so much better.
The drum is very woody and has a nice round tone. The brass rims really open the drum up. This drum would be great for jazz, blues and singer songwriter type stuff. Definitely not a thrasher's drum! It has a nice fat backbeat.
If it doesn't sell here, I plan on throwing it up on the auction site for more money. I'm looking to get $325 plus actual shipping. Please PM if interested.
This is an eight lug drum.
Thanks!
Ray
