I would too! When I got this snare, the horrible yellowing was over half of the drum. It must had been sitting by a window for many years. I was able to clean it up pretty well in a few hours.

Extremely impressive!

I have to ask....

How? I have a nice WMP that I just finished the metal work on and now it's onto the shell. Not even as close to that yellowed but will need some work.

Two words, laquer thinner, but be carful, it could take the pearl right off. Use a nice soft white cloth and rub gently with a small amount of laquer thinner, you will see the yellow start to come off on the cloth.

I have some yellowed Slingys too. Your process sounds a bit risky...but it's hard to argue with your results.

Thanks for the tip! I used a Magic Eraser several years ago to get rust stains off WMP (see results here: http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=27423&highlight=magic+eraser), but I doubt it would have made a dent in the yellowing on yours. As you can see, my drum still showed the yellowing. Your drum was so yellowed that I thought it resembled a big rust stain, which reminded me of my experience. Excellent job!

Thanks Mark

I watched all of your videos and a few more on this. Really helped. I am going to try to find an old MIJ WMP to practice this on. Would hate to ruin such a nice Ludwig as my first try. If i blow it on the MIJ then I can always take off the wrap to teach myself how to do a re-wrap on that one.

PS, looking forward to meeting you at the CT Drum show if your going this year.
