Slingerland? what the heck is this?........... Last viewed: 3 hours ago

I normally try not to post ebay links. But this kit is a weird one. I've never seen cloud badges on anything but bass and snare drums. Seeing the Ludwig tom mount does this look like a Ludwig WMP kit someone added RK lugs and stuck badges too? Or??? Interiors have been painted grey so no help there. Anyone? Pretty hefty $$$ on it too.

Glenn,

I saw this one too, and it raised my eyebrows a little, too.

Slingerland did use a cloud style badge, from the late 20s up until about 1950 (several variations of it, see: http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/drcjw/article_1_badges.html). The badge on the SD appears to be early 1950s. Slingerland did use those lugs, and IF memory serves me correctly they did do the Gretsch-style silver paint at times as well.

But, with the harware modifications and other questions marks, I think he's really steep on his price.

Just my opinion here, and for the record I do NOT consider myself a Slingerland expert (and really not that much of a "student" either). So, if anyone else can trump me on this, by all means please do so...

The fist badge grommet looks cut, the second grommet looks cut and tampered with, the snare badge grommet has the back of it in the front !!

Just my observations !! There should be no slices and no warping of a grommet that has always been on the badge !!

I`ve been wrong before, and the wrap looks too clean where it meets the badge, without cleanning the edges of said badge !!

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

The drums, if the wrap is original, are definitely not Ludwig. Ludwig did not use the real WMP wrap at the time when these drums were made. They used their own version of a marine pearl wrap that only a true Luddy hugger would like. I have never appreciated it.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

this seller is dreaming it's player grade at best. maybe $500.00, the entire thing is wrong, toms did not have vent holes or badges. slingerland never used silver paint,,To many issues to discuss let someone else deal with it this is a train wreck.

I don't see any re rings in the bass drum. So maybe a later ply shell?

OB great catch in the snare badge grommet! Your right on everything.

Bill that's interesting on the silver interiors do you know what years they used it?

Thanks that clear some things up. It's a nice looking players kit despite the modifications it has. Just no way it's the vintage kit it's described as. What about the later 90's+ Radio King and Sound King kits? Did those have cloud badges on the toms? Maybe if so they just swapped older badges on it. And did they have re rings? Or different animal? Just trying to figure out what the shells really are.

the toms that are shown are Rk toms. but some knuckle head installed cloud badge on them. the bass drum has re rings in it the foam is just making it difficult to see them. at his price it will never ever sale.

Yes your right I can see the rings now in the bass. Front ring is pretty clear to see but can't really see the rear. Thanks for clearing that up. I see them in the snare too. So at least it's RK shells and lugs.

A 20" bass drum with a brass cloud badge and telescoping spurs?I've never seen one before. The seller says the hardware is "original"...not.The smaller tom has an extra hole partially consealed by a lug,and the rims are not Slingerland.
