Slingerland Strainer Position

Hi guys. I have a 1961 Slingerland Hollywood Ace that has the rapid strainer positioned to the left of the badge rather than to the right. All hardware is original, no extra holes, etc, which leads me to believe it left the Niles factory that way. It seems that in just about any picture I have seen of a Slingy snare the throw is to the right. Did Slingerland make "lefty" snares on special order order or something? Does anyone else have one with the throw on the left?

As always - thanks for your vintage drum wisdom :)

Slingerland allowed many deviations from the specs (mistakes) to ship from the factory. There are several possible reasons for the reversed position of the strainer. One very possible reason is that the badge was installed on the wrong panel. I have a 9x13 tom made in 1966 where the seam would be facing the audience if I wanted to play on the designated top head with the muffler. I fixed the problem by installing a muffler of the same type on the other head. I then carefully rotated the badge 180 degrees, and flipped the drum over. Slingerland would install mufflers for the reso side a la Gretsch if ordered that way.

Hi leedybdp - I think you may have hit the nail on the head! I bet the badge was placed on the wrong panel, since everything else is placed in a similar position as I see on my other Slingy snare. Pretty cool. Thanks for your help...oh and nice fix on your kit - thats a beauty!

Thanks, James. Even with the screw-ups, Slingerland and SlingerLeedy are at the top of my list of favorite drums.
