Slingerland setomatic

Hello - New to this forum. Need some help!!!! Just purchased a very nice condition 1966 Slingerland in Ruby Red Sparkle, sizes 20-12-16. The set is all original and in very nice shape except for one thing. The current tom mount has to go (double clip mount?). Does anyone out there have a Slingerland setomatic laying around? I prefer to mount the tom on the bass drum as opposed to a snare basket or cymbal stand. I had lots of new kits, but there is something classy about an old vintage kit and I love the sound. Couldnt believe how easy this was to dial in!!

WOW - I found a setomatic in mint condition. A guy named Jim at Donn Bennets drum center had one in very nice condition!! Very good to deal with and this guy knows his vintage drums!! Thanks Jim

I will have to drill a hole in the tom to accomodate the L-arm (in the center of the mounting plate) . I have the diamond shaped mounting plate on there now. I will keep the bass drum mount that is there now. It is a round hole and the set o matic has a D shape that Jim said would be O.K. Will see. Keeping my fingers crossed. He had the set up that I have on there now at his shop and was cross referencing them.

I'm sorry but I simply don't believe in altering the original shell! you should just leave it factory! we don't own these old drums we just rent them someone owned them before you someone will own them after you!! what is it that is so bad about the stock configuration??DOH

Hey there Slingerland1966! Glad you found your Setomatic mount! Ya know, it's such a personal thing about keeping these vintage drums original or altering them to fit our needs. I appreciate everyone's thoughts on this, BUT, it comes down to the fact that they are your drums and you need to do what you feel comfortable with. Case in point; I recently acquired a 4pc 1967 Slingerland kit, 20, 12, 16, 14 Artist snare drum. The kit was actually part of a Duet outfit, meaning that there were two bass drums, both virgin, with the dual 12" toms being mounted on a floor stand. I fully intend to play this kit, but do not want to use a rims mount or snare stand to hold the tom. I installed a beautiful vintage-style rail consolette mount from Steve Maxwell. Sure, I had to drill two holes on the bass drum for the rail, but I was able to keep the original diamond plate. I'll be posting a picture of kit in the Gallery section very soon! I plan to keep this kit and it satisfies me perfectly! If you didn't obtain your kit with plans of making money on it, do what you need to do to make them "right" for you! I make take some flak for saying that!!!!

Hello Vintagemore2000! Yes, I know I defiled my bass drum! Still, the addition of the rail consolette looks great...and vintage. I did not want to mount the tom from a stand or rims mount! I posted pictures yesterday, but didn't realize I could only post one picture, so the post was removed. I'm away for the weekend, but will post the kit on Monday. Take a look at it let me know what you think.
