slingerland phantom kit worth?

Loading...

so, at a show recently, i was talking with a drummer of a band i highly favor and had asked him about a kit he once played, which i thought was a slingerland phantom. he informed me that i was correct and, he was going to sell them! but didnt have a clue as to the worth, which is what held him back. so hopefully score for me!

as far as i know this is the kit

-22 or 24 kick

-13 or 14 rack tom - split clean down the seam

-16 or 18 floor tom

-matching snare - missing zoomatic knob

im not sure of the sizes as, ive only seen the one crappy video of it, and i was too stoked at that news too think about asking! so feel free to give me a couple different prices if possible. id really love to land this kit as not only is it something rare or cool but i love the band it was played with and the drummer who played them. if anyone can help me come up with an honest price on these i would much appreciate it. thanks in advance to anyone who helps

Hi With out photos to see the condition it would be hard to tell you.But the set could be one or two a 22,13,16,14 snare or 24,14,18,14 snare..You said that the snare matches the set right?..Any of these S/L sets are Rare to fine.If he is just selling the drums? any hardware with the set? any missing pieces?.With out any photos i would say 500.00 to 1,500.00 would be a fair deal for you.....Mikey

I think if the drums are the larger ones (24/14/18)they would be worth substantially more than the more common 22/13/16 configuration.(I say MORE common,as in sizes, cause Phantom and common don't mix).In general plexi drums do NOT weather the hard road life coming out "unscathed".So if they are nice AND big,I don't think $1,500 would be out of the question. The Phantom snare is the kicker here.

i knew the snare would be the kicker. ive seen one or 2 here looking for it. and only a couple more kits.. i think? however i didnt expect 1500 even with a cracked tom. with the person theyre coming from im expecting bigger sizes, so, i might just have to bite the bullet and sell a car. no clue as to hardware other than hoops and lugs, but wouldnt doubt him having it if he can find it

as far as the road life, as best i know, story goes he only used them for one tour. the rack got cracked somehow and theyve sat for around 15 years. so other than some weldon and maybe some light sanding/buffing is probably what im lookin at at worst here. id ask for pics but he is on the road at the moment :/ bummer. ill still try though, if for nothing else other than the knowledge of the sizes.

What year did Slingerland come out with those? And how long did they run for? I never saw a set of those before till someone posted a pic of them a while ago. Guess they were Slingy's answer to the Luddy's Vista's? Very cool good luck with the purchase!

well there are adds for them dating to 73. so im guessing they came out just as the vistas did. ive read maybe even slightly before ludwig did acrylics even? i think they only lasted a couple years and werent very big sellers. but i could be wrong... theres only so much you can find by searching the web before you need an experts opinion

and thanks, i hope i get to purchase them too! though i dread it being a long process if so. thats going to be the killer for me.

Slingerland came out with these on a single page catalog in 1975 and only sold them till about mid 1976...Like i stated before these sets in any sizes are rare in 35+ years in dealing in vintage drums i have only seen 2 sets in person and never a snare drum even with the two sets that i have seen they both had C.O.B. snares...Mikey

what the..? ive read 3 different places that said 1973..even the add that sold on ebay for them recently was dated 73. i guess, at least the run was shorter lived than i thought...

more info on the set. it looks like its 5 piece instead of a 4 like i thought. regular sizes, 22-12-13 split at seam-16-14x5 1/2. it is missing the tom holder and the thumb screw for the zoomatic. wont have pics for a couple months probably.. but with the info now, can anyone give me a more accurate value than $1000 difference?

also, i have no problem with the split seam, easy fix. however, this will be my first venture outside of old ludwigs really! how hard is the correct hardware going to be to find and around how much?

Seal, good luck with the Phantoms~!! Hope you can snag them. No idea on value tho, I'll leave that to the experts.
