Slingerland hardware - vintage "Magnum Last viewed: 43 minutes ago

I just received an NOS Slingerland 'Magnum' pedal I bought on ebay. I've developed a bad habit of restoring old hardware. Serious illness!

ANYWAY... for whatever Slingerland did right or wrong in other areas of the business - and I don't know much about them (except that my first set was a mix n' match used Mardi Gras kit). But their hardware ideas and production are absolutely first class.

Well thought out, impeccably manufactured, and not susceptible to bean-counter hardware short cuts.

YOU probably already know this -- but I think when I have something positive to say, I should say it. Kudos to the Slingerland Company! At least of that era!

I always thought that Slingerland had the "classiest" look compared to the others of the time. The soundking stuff by the early 70's still blows me away - modern, functional, sleek and beautiful!

I love the look of Slingerland's older bass drum pedal footboards used on the Epic and AA. I've shown them to drummer friends who play only modern equipment and they are always blown away. To be honest, my AA pedal plays very well too. I like it almost as much as my Ludwig speedking - and that is saying something. I think Slingerlands stuff is great and very underated!! I've attached a couple pics of my Slingy pedals for fun.

Those are absolutely beautiful. I've had an eye for the early Ludwigs of this era. I'll bet they play just fine for 90% of us. Now you've opened my eyes to these. Cool!!

I've just restored a couple of Tempo Kings I'm going to put on the market... listed them here at: http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=25956

I'm not dying to sell them, but a good home is welcome.

Wow! Great job restoring those pedals - they look fantastic!. If I didn't already own a Tempo-King I would have bought yours in a heart beat. I hope you are able to find it a good home. Glad to see there are others here who interested in vintage bass drum pedals. I think I have a bit of a soft spot for them :).

The description on ebay said the Magnum was the forerunner to the Yellowjacket. I haven't taken it apart yet, but externally it is the same.

The only difference -- and it seems significant -- is that this Magnum has a chain drive, while the Yellowjacket and the earlier (forgot the name, too lazy to go to the basement and look) have a chrome solid strap. Very nicely made, too.

Anyone have a Slingerland source I can check this out? It came in the original box, from Niles, Model 944.

It is a beauty.
