Slingerland guys, some help.. Last viewed: 5 hours ago

So, further into my quest to find a decent vintage snare drum that won't break the bank, sounds decent, and won't have to worry about theft or damage, i found this little guy.. Upon doing some research and judging by the pics, it looks like it is a 70's ribbed aluminum shell Slingerland snare drum.. What i'd like to know is -->

1- Is this Slingerland's answer to the Acrolite ?

2- Is this a decent and reliable snare drum ?

3- Is $100 a good deal ?

I had contacted the seller a while back and asked if he was willing to sell the snare drum without the case, and if so, how much would it cost, and he told me it could be mine for $100..

Any thoughts would be appreciated..

cheers,

Rob

This video should help. I think the short answer is, the Slingerland aluminum, though a little silly looking to some people is a legitimate workable snare drum, that you could easily play on any number of gigs at pretty much any level. If you can get that for $100, it seems like a good option, even though the Slingerland resale market is kind of mediocre.

I think I played one once and liked it. I've loved every Slingerland drum I've owned (the full set I have now, 20" bass drums as part of two different "Franken-kits," a student model snare I still have and play, and a concert king snare that I loved that I traded just because I'm a 5/5.5" guy not a 6.5" guy.

If I was looking for an acro and a $100 Slingerland aluminum came up instead I wouldn't hesitate for a moment (I ended up with an Acro though).

Hey Rob, if you want a wood 6.5 Sling snare, my friend is selling one that i used to own in Galaxy sparkle finish....he would let it go for cheap. If i remember correctly it is all original except for the wrap.

Keep fixing them up...

I have both the 8 and 10 lug model 140, These snare drums are awesome sounding, I like them better than my acrolites, I use an unusual

Head combo I run a Emperor coated on top and an emperor snare side head on the bottom with puresound steel snare wires, It is one of my favorite snare drums.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

How does the 10 lug Slingerland Aluminum compare to a Supra?

It doesn't they sound entirely different, due to the way the shells are finished and the snare gates are entirely different on both drums. The 10 lug 140 is just a little better refined sounding than the 8 lug model is, I prefer the 8 lug model.

Thanks for all the helpful info guys ! I'm going to hold off on this one for a little while, just in case something else comes along. But so far this looks like a good contender.

Creighton, he says the case is banged up and not functioning properly..

Hey dude ! Thanks man, but i'm strictly a 5x14 or 5.5x14 snare guy.. I do have a Leedy & Ludwig 6x14 that i love, but that one's too valuable to leave at the pub.. Thanks for the offer, and please let me know if you come across something i may be interested in ;)

cheers !
