Slingerland floor tom leg brackets mid 70s

Loading...

Hi guys! I have a Slingerland kit from the mid 70s something and I have been having loads of trouble with the floor tom brackets. I replaced one bracket but same thing happened again.

The threads in the bracket itself are just worthless and now i´m considering to replace them with new brackets of some other kind.

The problem is that i dont find brackets with the right center to center spacing. Somebody have a clue where to find good brackets with 2 1/4" or 57 mm spacing?

I dont find anything on the web! :(

This must have been a general issue with these brackets... What have you guys done to make them hold?

best regards // Max Linder

Use the original parts . Buy a helicoil kit with the right threads that the original wing bolts will thread into. Then carefully drill ,tap, and install the helicoil into the original Tom leg holder. The Helicoil replaces the original threads.

Helicoils are a ok fix but look into "Timeserts" too. It's a actual threaded sleeve, ribbed on the outside that you screw back in the hole. Yes by all means try to use the original brackets. Check to be sure your wing screws are not mushroomed at the end. This will also chew up your threads when you back them out. I never had problems with the original hardware and they held fine for years. You can re tap them as is and use some larger screws. Depends how original you want them to be.

If you choose to use a aftermarket leg and mount you can make some metal brackets to bolt the new mount to and retain the original hole pattern in the shell. The next guy down the line will thank you~!

Thanks a lot for the quick responses! Now I just have to consider the alternatives..

Looked into timesert and but the Swedish dealer only had metric sizes.

So maybe helicoil then? Have to look into it.. Do you guys maybe know what size the screw is?

I took one of the wingscrews out of my 1966 Singerland floor tom leg holders.

Measured it with a thread gage at 24 threads per inch.In the States it is called UNF 24 (Uniform National Fine) thread. Hope this helps.

Buy era-correct replacement(s).

Sometimes they will come up as singles on eBay....sometimes as a set.

No substitution for correctness.....:)
