Loading...

Can anyone check this out and advise? I'm wondering if this butt plate is the right one and will fit my 60s slingerland snare, as the screws on mine haven't much thread left. Sorry my photos always end up the wrong way up. The eBay item number is 141684360348.[Attachment: 85584] my drum is solid shell niles badge serial number is 5643. Sorry I'm adding this text - the picture ( upside down) here is MY drum.

Unfortunately I don't have my drum with me now so I can't measure it yet, until tommorow , and the listing only has a few more hours I think.

I flipped it to see it. The butt plate on this snare has been installed about 1/2" off center.

I was told there are 2 butts. 1 regular and a wider one for marching.

I believe I have a marcher butt on my custom sling snare.

Let me find a pic.

From green glass drum

I flipped it to see it. The butt plate on this snare has been installed about 1/2" off center. Not a problem. Move the strings to center the wires in the snare bed.I was told there are 2 butts. 1 regular and a wider one for marching.I believe I have a marcher butt on my custom sling snare.Let me find a pic.

That is correct. the marcher butt end is wider hole spacing than the hollwood ace or student model rk butt end is.

Ok I appreciate your keen eye, I'm looking at it now but how could I do this as there isn't room to move them any further over? I've just purchased the new item.

When I get it I might just use the screws on it.....34 dollars shipped.... Oh well , and oh dear!! Anyway I did need it.

It was just that when I've been in a couple of hardware stores they told me I probably wouldn't be able to find screws that fit-they said different measurements over here.

You know you are right. There is no more room to move the strings over.

If it sounds good then forget about it.

If it were me,.........I think I would re-mount that butt plate and perfectly center it over the bed which is hopefully perfectly centered between the lugs.

And then fill the 2 holes with colored resin.

The hole spacing on the marcher butt is 2 9/16" c to c.

(see my pic)

The set up of lugs, snare beds, edges, butt and throw are so crucial to making a great sounding drum.

They all need to line up.

Sometimes the drillers and assemblers just did not have the attention to detail required.

I did not know that I had purchased a marcher butt when I bought it.

Chris Huer did some work on this drum and told me it was a marcher.

He said both butt types were very hard to find.

So I said go ahead and install the marcher.
